Christian Zionism and the Prophecy of the "Year of the Atomic World War" Mustafa Amiri Among Christian-Israeli circles and futurist Protestant commentators, a theory is widespread that the second coming of Jesus Messiah must occur less than a generation after the establishment of the State of Israel. The theory of the "fig tree generation" is derived from the symbolic and metaphorical interpretation of the Bible: "Learn a warning from the fig tree every time its branch blossoms and bears leaves. I tell you the truth, this generation will not perish until all is fulfilled" [1] The fig tree is a symbol of the "People of Israel" in the interpretations of futurist Protestants. When "Israel flourishes again", that is, the Jewish state will be re-established in the Holy Land (1948 AD), those "generations" who will see this event will see the return of Christ before they die. But the main question is this: how old is a "generation"? Evangelical commentators, referring to the Bible, saw the length of this generation as at least 80 years old: "Our life expectancy is seventy years and if we are stronger, it is eighty years" [2] According to this interpretation, the return of Jesus should be realized by the end of 2028 AD. This theory is considered one of the intellectual foundations of a spectrum of Christian Zionism for predicting the "year of appearance" and the beginning of the atomic world war. Of course, this interpretation is not considered the official reading of church theology; Rather, the reading is a spectrum of Torah-oriented political apocalyptic flow. It should be noted that theories such as "Millennialism" and "Generation Israel" are the main pillars of Christian evangelism and Zionism. In their logic, the world must go through war, destruction and Armageddon until it returns and the "New World Order" is formed based on Israel's dominance in the Middle East and America's leadership in the world. But from the perspective of Islamic theology, the descent of Christ after the appearance of Hazrat Mahdi is a message of peace and coexistence of divine religions. The question is: how do certain ideological currents, combined with symbolic interpretations of religious texts and political events, reproduce the "theological" discourse and the plan for the future of humanity?
