The Cook Political Report, which specializes in election forecasts, has corrected the classification of 5 more races for the US House of Representatives in favor of the Democrats, on the eve of the midterm elections, with the preference remaining for the Republicans in these districts. The organization has moved four races in North Carolina, Florida and Tennessee from "guaranteed Republican" to "probable Republican," citing factors including concerns about low Republican turnout and high election spending, according to CNN. It also reclassified the race in Virginia's 5th District, contested by Republican Rep. John Maguire and former Democratic Rep. Tom Perrillo, from "probably Republican" to "leaning Republican," given the escalating spending by both parties on the contest. The fund previously noted that Republicans are unlikely to retain a majority in the House of Representatives, while Democrats hope to make gains in key states during Tuesday's vote.
