The Jordanian army announced, on Saturday, that it foiled a cross-border infiltration attempt by an armed group of 14 people who came from Syria, in the northern military zone. An official military official at the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces said in a statement that the group attempted to cross the border under heavy fire on Friday evening, and directly clashed with Border Guard forces, who handled them according to the approved rules of engagement. He added that the Jordanian forces inflicted "many casualties on the armed group, while the rest of its members fled towards the interior of Syria." The military source confirmed that the Jordanian army "will handle with force and determination any attempt at infiltration or smuggling, and will deal with an iron fist anyone who dares to harm the security of the homeland and the citizenry and the sanctity of its borders."
