Thousands of people demonstrated in the Italian capital, Rome, on Friday, as trade unions called for a general strike to protest high living costs and high arms spending. The demonstrators criticized the government of Georgia Maloney for directing funds to defense and armaments instead of education and health. About 50 cities in Italy witnessed similar demonstrations, at the same time as strikes in several ports, rejecting arms sales and wars.
