The United States canceled a planned group photo of G20 foreign ministers during their meeting in Atlanta after European diplomats objected to appearing in a single photo with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and threatened to boycott it. The Associated Press quoted American officials as saying that Secretary of State Marco Rubio decided to cancel the photo, after concluding that the controversy over the matter could distract attention from the work of the meeting, which is attended by senior diplomats from the 20 largest economies. The arrangements for taking the group photo caused disagreements between the participants, due to European objections to Lavrov's participation, in light of the continuation of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The G20 foreign ministers' meetings will be held on Friday and Saturday in Atlanta, amid disputes over a range of international issues, including the war in Ukraine, the war in Iran, trade tensions and disputes in the South China Sea.
