Cost of a new biometric passport, validity period of old documents and personal data of citizens: Ministry of Interior clarification The Ministry of Immigration and Civil Service of the Ministry of Interior of Armenia provided clarifications regarding the implementation of the new biometric system. "The state fee for a new biometric passport is 28,650 DM, and for an identification card - 5,950 DM. Therefore, summing up the costs of processing two different documents and then replacing one of them, and then presenting the resulting amount as the cost of one passport is not related to reality. The "nearly tenfold price increase" mentioned in the advertisement cannot be presented as a difference in the cost of the old and new biometric passport. The cost of the previous biometric passport was 25,000 drams, the new one - 28,650 drams. We consider it necessary to point out that previously issued biometric passports were not supported by electronic gate automatic border control systems in foreign countries, as the information exchange mechanism through the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which is necessary to verify the authenticity of passport data in other countries, was not implemented. From November 1, existing documents will not expire automatically. Passports and IDs will remain valid until the expiration date indicated on them. There is no requirement for their immediate replacement. The information according to which in order to get a new biometric passport, a citizen must first replace the current old-style identification card with a new one, is also incorrect. You can also apply for a new biometric passport with an old-style ID card. The government did not add additional amounts to the cost proposed by the private partner. Attracting a private partner was carried out through an open competition, in which a minimum price was offered.
