The elections in Armenia district: 90-96% of the votes for the ruling party and 5 communities with no political competition The Central Election Commission of Armenia published preliminary results of municipal elections held on October 25. The civil contract received the largest number of votes in 16 out of 19 communities. The other two won the solidarity blocs, which also include the ruling party. The only exception was Stefan. Some of the results are particularly striking: Armyiv - 96.07% for the civil contract. - Wake, 96.11%. * Garni - 94.23%. Vardenis - 93.78%. Akhuryan - 92.34%. Disappointment - 90.82% Goris - 93.57% At the same time, the Solidarity bloc, Beer Armoy, Vaika, Grani, Vardenis and Aharian, the civil contract had no opponents at all in the elections. In other communities, the results of the ruling party were high: Artashat - 85.95%, Ijevan - 86.12%, Tsaghkadzor - 84.56%, Dilijan - 76.27%, Artik - 74.79%, Araks - 71.95%, Meghri - 71.83%, Martuni - 67.61%. The most intense fight took place in Egegnadzor, where the civil contract received 48.06% and the republic received 46.86%. The difference was only 185 votes. In Stepanavan, the Entrepreneurs Party was held for the first time with 41.54%, before the civil contract (35.32%). But the big question is not just who won, but how competitive the election was. When people choose five communities and are asked to vote for one political force, it is difficult to talk about a complete political alternative. Such high results also require attention to the conditions of the election campaign. During the campaign there were reports of alleged misuse of administrative resources and other irregularities. These claims should be independently verified: mere interest does not prove error. Local self-government should be based on competition of programs, public control and accounting of elected leaders.
