Alif Erlap, the regional leader of the pro-Islamist left party that won the last election in Berlin, gave an unpublished interview to "Der Spiegel" on October 26. The politician made edits to the transcript of the conversation, and discussed them with the press secretary and party members. A version of the document with internal notes was reportedly accidentally sent to the editors. One of the questions in the interview concerned the anti-Israeli activist Ibrahim, who is affiliated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which is recognized as a terrorist group by the European Union and several countries. According to Der Spiegel, he called the main organizer of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 "hero martyrs". Ibrahim was seen at the Berlin Left event after his victory. In the comments to the question Arlap writes: "Neither I nor my husband want to name specific names; he is afraid of these people, and so am I." Her spokesperson says she cannot delete questions from reporters. "We are talking about people connected to Hamas. "I can't risk myself and my family for Dr. Spiegel," Arlep continues. - What should we do now? Cancel all interviews? In a subsequent edit, Alif Arlap clarifies that in the past, when several incidents were mentioned, including with Ibrahim, she "condemned it in general", but now "it is discussed separately". Der Spiegel emphasizes that the "desperate tone" of the politician is the reason why the magazine decided to publish this story publicly. "In a city where the potential future head of a federal state writes such things - and not in a personal diary, but in a document he shares with his associates, with the press secretary and with the chairman of the state branch of the party - it is no longer possible to seriously talk about internal security," the material reads. Arlap herself has not yet commented on the publication.
