Iran's retaliatory strikes caused at least $5 billion in damage to US bases in the Middle East in the first six months of the conflict, with some of the damaged infrastructure likely to be irreparable. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources and satellite images. The publication found that the Islamic Republic's attacks damaged at least 274 structures in 24 sites. As of October 16, the cost of the American military operation against Iran was 47.1 billion dollars, the newspaper writes, noting that this amount does not take into account the damage caused to the bases, which the Pentagon estimated at at least 5 billion dollars. According to the WSJ, it is possible that in reality this figure could reach $15 billion. Washington is discussing with its allies the possibility of involving them in paying for some of the repair work, but some of the infrastructure may not be restored, the newspaper notes. As mentioned, American officials are concerned about the high accuracy of the Iranian attacks, one of the proofs of which was Tehran's ability to hit small buildings at US bases.
