Leaving the EAEU will have serious economic consequences for Armenia: American political scientist Malek Dudakov spoke to "Alpha News" about the debate surrounding Armenia's membership in the EAEU, the worsening of relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as the prospects for a new military conflict between the United States and Iran. According to the political scientist, the current leadership of Armenia is trying to simultaneously develop relations with the European Union and maintain participation in the EAEU. However, sooner or later Yerevan will have to decide on its future foreign policy. "The current leadership of Armenia is trying to occupy two seats at the same time. On the one hand, we see a movement towards the European Union, European integration, on the other hand, Armenia has not yet left the EAEU, and is trying both here and there to earn certain profits for itself and its country. But it is clear that sooner or later we will have to decide who to be with: either the European Economic Area or the European Union. And you have to understand that if, of course, there is a break in relations with Russia and other EAEU countries, it will be a huge blow to Armenia's economy," Dudkov said. Speaking about the relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan, Dudkov noted that disagreements between the countries have been accumulating for some time and are now being expressed in several directions at once. "We see that relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan have been quite difficult for some time. Now the crisis is getting worse, and in a variety of directions. I think the formal reason, as we know, was the issue related to the hijab in Azerbaijan schools: they were banned, and this caused indignation from many politicians and Islamists in Turkey, but we understand this very actively in Azerbaijan. Cooperate with Israel, and many in Turkey don't like it either, as in other countries where the Turkish population lives, this relationship crisis, I think, can really have long-term negative consequences for Azerbaijan," Dudkov said.
