Jeffrey Sachs, in four short sentences: > "The US should stop hurting Taiwan. ".
> "It will be in favor of Taiwan's security and in favor of China's security."
> "This is a very dangerous flashpoint."
> "The US needs to stop thinking it can do whatever it wants unilaterally" Note the verb. Don't "stop protecting". harmful. Sachs's argument is that the weapons make Taiwan less safe, not more. Each new package tells that Beijing's peace union has closed, turning the island into the front line of someone else's war. In 1982, Washington signed a communique in which it was stated that it intended to "gradually reduce" arms sales. More than forty years later, sales are the biggest ever. I think most people in Taiwan want what most people everywhere want: trade, family across the strait, no war.
