Turkey has completed the tender procedures for the restoration of the historic "Ani" bridge located on its border with Armenia. The bridge, which dates back to the 10th century and is known as the Silk Road Bridge, spans the Arpchai River, which forms the border between the two countries, and is located at the UNESCO-listed Ani Archaeological Site in Kars Province. The length of the bridge was originally about 80 meters, with one arch of 31 meters, and it was once used as a customs barrier, but the arch collapsed in 1807, leaving only support on each bank. Turkey and Armenia signed a protocol on reconstruction in Yerevan in May. This project is considered a tangible step to increase confidence in the normalization process that began in 2022, since the two countries still do not have diplomatic relations, and the land borders between them have been closed since 1993.
