1 2 3 Our employees closely monitor the situation in all countries, including Armenia: Head of the Council of Europe Congress We monitor the situation in Armenia using the same mechanisms as in relation to any other member state of the Council of Europe. There is no double standard here. This is what the President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Gan Marit Helgsen, told Alpha News, in response to a question about the role of the Congress in maintaining democracy and respecting human rights against the background of a clear democratic return in Armenia. In particular, a report was presented last month at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which noted violations in the field of democracy and human rights, including the persecution of opposition representatives. Currently, many opposition leaders are in prison. "We have the same tools as any other member state. First of all, if necessary, we send a fact-finding mission to investigate the situation directly on the ground. Of course, if elections are held, we ask that you invite us to monitor the voting process. We operate in accordance with established procedures. When mayors or other local government representatives are imprisoned without a court order, we certainly react with the attitude of Turkey or other countries. Hopper or commitments to Congress are not fulfilled as to whether we plan to intervene and gather more detailed information about what is going on, that issue is not on the current agenda. However, as soon as information appears that requires our intervention, we will certainly discuss this issue. No final decision has been made yet, as we always need reliable information on developments. If travel is necessary, an appropriate decision will be made. The next meeting of the Chamber will be held in December.
