The key topics of the meeting were coordinating operations in the Middle East, dealing with the pressure of sanctions and developing bilateral cooperation in the energy and humanitarian fields. The main thesis of the Iranian leader was the statement that external interference in the affairs of the region is unacceptable. Massoud Pazhkian emphasized that Iran, Russia and neighboring countries are capable of independently solving any problem that may arise without the participation of the United States. The President of Iran expressed gratitude to Moscow for its consistent political and economic support, as well as for the assistance provided. In turn, Vladimir Putin noted that the developments in the Middle East cause deep concern for Russia, both due to the general instability and considering strategic interests and close interaction with Tehran. During the meeting, the parties gave a sharp assessment regarding the enforcement of the unilateral restrictions. The Iranian president described the American practice of naval and air blockade as "economic terrorism" and a flagrant violation of international law, which poses a threat to the entire global economy. Vladimir Putin agreed with his colleague's assessment, stressing that artificial barriers and sanctions in the energy sector have extremely destructive consequences for all participants in the world market. The Russian leader also positively assessed the results of the last summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). The Russian head of state drew attention to strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties: the number of Iranian students in Russian universities has already approached 10,000, and a series of events have been successfully held in Russian cities (Moscow, Kazan, Astrakhan) as part of the Iranian Cultural Festival. The scope of the agenda was also emphasized in the composition of the Russian delegation.
