US Vice President J. Dee Vance said Wednesday that the Iran war has cost Republicans in the midterm elections. "The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night," Vance wrote in a lengthy post on X. "If you want to argue that it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do it. Arguably it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, at least it's honest," added Vance. "But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there," he said. Vance also cited a pollster who predicted Republicans would lose the generic ballot by 13 percent, saying he was surprised by the size of the party's losses. According to Vance, the pollster found that many voters who supported Trump in 2024 were not satisfied and intended to vote for a Democrat in 2026. When asked what would convince them to return to the Republican camp, the respondents identified four main priorities: ending the war in Iran, addressing the cost of living and inflation, putting America first and changing the US relationship with Israel.
