The Houthi missile bombardment disrupts air traffic at Aden Airport and causes the delay of departures and other diversions arriving there. The missile bombardment launched by the Houthi militia, today, Wednesday, at Aden International Airport, disrupted air traffic and diverted civilian flights to alternative airports, amid reports of major damage to the runway, in the sixth attack targeting the airport in days. Al-Masdr Online correspondent said that heavy explosions were heard at noon and afternoon on Wednesday in Khor Maksar district, in the center of the temporary capital, Aden, caused by missiles aimed at the airport. Informed sources told Al-Masdr Online that the bombing led to the diversion of several civilian flights that were on their way to Aden Airport, while two Yemen Airlines planes, arriving from Mumbai and Cairo, had to land at Mukalla and Djibouti airports, after failing to land at the airport. In this context, the journalist Fathi Ben Lazark said in his announcement that the bombing caused significant damage to the Aden International Airport, and took its runway out of service, which prevented it from accepting civilian flights at this time. He added that the attack disrupted the departure of four flights that were supposed to leave the airport on Wednesday, in addition to disrupting other flights arriving at it, and noted that it caused the departure of hundreds of passengers, including the sick, elderly, children and women. The Ministry of Transportation, for its part, condemned the renewed attack on Aden International Airport with ballistic missiles and said that the airport was subjected to two new attacks, the first at one in the afternoon and the second at three in the afternoon, which brought the total number of attacks aimed at it to six within days. The ministry warned, in a statement, of the consequences of repeated damage to the airport, as an essential civilian facility, on the safety of passengers, aircraft crews and workers, and of the threat this poses to civil aviation traffic and the movement of citizens, as well as its possible consequences on humanitarian and aid efforts. The ministry assigned responsibility for the attacks and their consequences to the Houthi militia, and called on the international community and the relevant UN organizations, and especially the International Civil Aviation Organization, to condemn the attacks and take urgent action to stop them, and to take measures to ensure the protection of airports and civilian facilities in accordance with relevant international laws and agreements.
