Historical studies indicate that the people of al-Muktarah waged a long resistance lasting more than two years against the Imamate forces, taking advantage of the mountainous nature of the region and its fortresses, even though the attacking forces possess a large number of fighters and artillery. Sources say that the conflicts ended with the Imamate's forces taking over the citadel in 1921, due to the betrayal of one of the sheikhs of the area, which allowed the Imamate to control it. Despite its fall at that time, the resistance remains present in the local memory as a prominent milestone in the refusal to subject the region to the authority of the imams. A decade of steadfastness against the descendants of the Imamate Since 2015, Al-Makhtara district and its historic citadel have returned to the heart of the conflict with the Houthi militia's attempts to control it, and its sons have risen to write a new history against the descendants of the Imamate, in a scene that evokes this historical legacy, even if the circumstances of the conflict and the sides are different. The militia, which bases its political and military project on a reference related to the Imamate, tried since 2015, following its military coup, to enter Al-Maktra district and control it from the Al-Ahkum area gate, but the people of the district then created popular resistance, confronted it and forced it to retreat. Since that moment, the progeny of the Imamate have been trying to control the area, launching their repeated attacks, but they fail each time, and they suffer heavy losses and turn back, while the area remains difficult for them for more than ten years, until today. Today, the descendants of the Imamate renewed their attempts to control the district and its strategic stronghold, but this time from the gate of al-Shamaytin district and al-Turba area in Taiz province, which fell under their control at the beginning of this month (October 2026). According to military sources who spoke to Al-Masdr Online, these militia movements towards the castle came against the backdrop of a military escalation in the area, which included an attack on the positions of the defending forces, in an attempt to advance towards the strategic site and control it. The sources say that the forces stationed at the sites managed to confront all the attacks launched by the militia, causing them losses, while the Tor al-Baha axis announced earlier the killing and wounding of more than 20 Houthis, and the destruction of three vehicles and combat equipment during one operation to repel the attacks carried out by the militia in the previous days.
