Associated Press investigative report uncovered indications of Russian intelligence’s role in providing space support to Houthi militias and Iraqi militias loyal to Iran, which helped them carry out precise attacks on sensitive oil and military facilities within Saudi Arabia. The investigation was based on an analysis by geospatial intelligence firm Aurora of 40 missile and drone attacks carried out against Saudi Arabia between July 1 and October 19, and monitoring a 100% match between Russian spy satellite activity and the locations and timing of the strikes, tracking reconnaissance movements that preceded and continued after the attacks. The most notable of these attacks was the targeting of three vital pumping stations on the Saudi “East-West” oil pipeline on September 10, with drones launched from Iraq, leading to an immediate halt of oil flow, while the firm tracked increased activity of 11 Russian satellites over the target sites. The investigation also found monitoring of similar patterns of Russian satellite activity alongside Houthi attacks in Yemen, which included focus on the presidential palace in Aden and a nearby command center, as well as an attack on a government forces recruitment center in Shabwa that resulted in the death of 75 recruits, according to the report.
