On October 29, a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CMFA) of the Organization of Turkish States (OTS) was held in Ankara. The meeting on the eve of the organization's summit was chaired by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. * The Council of Foreign Ministers is one of the main mechanisms for the political coordination of the UTG. The Council is the second most important body in the organization's institutional structure after the Council of Heads of State. Its mission is to discuss key issues of cooperation, make the necessary decisions and prepare documents for perusal by the leaders of the countries participating in the association. In Ankara, the ministers reviewed the draft Ankara Declaration and other documents to be presented to the summit participants. UTG Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev reported on the results of the Azerbaijan presidency and the work of the organization's secretariat. The parties discussed the budgets of the UTG Secretariat and the Turkish Academy for 2027. Therefore, the agenda included not only political directives, but also organizational decisions on which the day-to-day work of the association depends. The meeting took place on the eve of the change of chairman in UTG: she is moving from Azerbaijan to Turkey. At the same time, the four-year term of Kovanichbek Umorlev as the general secretary of the association ends. * UTG's foreign policy coordination through the Council of Foreign Ministers also extends to international platforms. In September 2026, an informal meeting of the Council was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Participants discussed international and regional issues, agreed on the approaches of member states and observers, and considered UTC's application for observer status in the General Assembly. Regional security issues are also on the agenda of ministerial consultations. At the informal meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul on March 7, 2026, the main topic was events in the Middle East and escalation in the region.
