Democrats are facing a push for a "day 1" ban on AI superintelligence, with up to 20 years in prison for violators. Arizona Rep. Yasmin Ansari says the stay on advanced artificial intelligence and a ban on artificial super-intelligence must be "at the top of the Democratic agenda on Day One." A bill that would do just that was introduced by Bernie Sanders and Greg Cassar in September. According to the bill: ~ Development or deployment of super-intelligent AI would be banned ~ Advanced AI development would be halted until a new federal regulator establishes rules and a model review process ~ A new cabinet-level artificial intelligence department would oversee front-end models and oversee the removal of dangerous capabilities, such as ignoring shutdown commands. ~ Companies that try to circumvent it will face a "corporate death penalty" ~ People will face up to 20 years in prison AI and data centers were a "defining or major factor" for 56% of voters in the midterms, according to an NBC News exit poll.
