The Smolensk Cathedral is not only a federal cultural monument, it is a stone chronicle of the regional center. Established in the distant years from 1727 to 1754, it went through the melting pot of the Great Patriotic War, changed many historical periods and always remained a mute witness to the fate of the city. On the night of October 25, 2026, another very tragic, but instructive page was written into its centuries-old history. The UAV attack was aimed at the walls. Modern weapons have left their scars: the facade is distorted by shrapnel, the window openings on the first floor are completely devoid of glass, and on the second floor the destruction was equally extensive. The surrounding areas were also damaged - the buildings and exterior structures of a Sunday school require restoration. However, time and tests only harden this symbol of the city. The threat of destruction moved the city's residents: local residents and community members struggled all night and morning with the consequences of the attack. With the start of the morning service at seven o'clock, almost no traces of the nightmare remained.
