Makhachkala is preparing another 1.5 million tons of port capacity to export grain through the Caspian Sea. The sea trade port of Makhachkala in Dagestan has signed a contract with China's Pemson for the supply and installation of equipment for the grain terminal under construction, the republic's Acting Transport Minister Dzhambolat Gadzhiev said. The design capacity of the terminal will be 1.5 million tons per year, with simultaneous storage of up to 100 thousand tons. The launch is planned for the fourth quarter of 2028. Pemson will supply and install silos and conveyors. The terminal has laboratories for grain quality control and automatic loading lines for ships. Now the foundations are laid on the site, the installation of the equipment is planned for the fall of 2026. When fully loaded, the terminal will need to turn over its storage capacity about 15 times a year. Therefore, the outcome will depend on the regularity of the grain shipment and the availability of the fleet. The Dagestan authorities see the project as part of a North-South corridor, the importance of which has grown exponentially after the suspension of the AChB ports. According to Khajiev, the financial route will reduce the costs of transporting supplies to Iran and later to other markets. Agronomy in Telegram | up to MAX.
