The Higher Military Aviation School for Pilots in Ulyanovsk, which this year, by order of the Russian government, became an independent educational institution from a branch of the Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation School, remains in the sphere of special attention of the federal departments. This week, the guest of the Ulyanovsk region was the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Air and Space Forces, Lieutenant General Igor Romanov, who discussed with the Governor of Ulyanovsk Alexei Russkich the development of the Higher Military School of Aviation. The head of the Ulyanovsk region served as the initiator and main coordinator of the process of establishing an educational institution, which now trains military aviation pilots. Several regions applied for the location of a specialized military university, but the authorities of the Ulyanovsk region managed to protect their region as a platform for the implementation of a project supported at the highest political level. A weighty argument was the fact that Olyanovsk not only maintains, but also increases its position as the center of the local aircraft industry, where I-76MD-90A transport aircraft and I-78M-90A refueling aircraft are manufactured and installed on the wing. It is symbolic that Olyanovsk acquired a military aviation school in the year of the aircraft builder, announced in the region in 2026. Lieutenant Colonel Igor Romanov, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces for Military-Political Work, who visited Ulyanovsk, greatly appreciated the potential of the new educational institution, and emphasized its uniqueness and the professionalism of the teaching staff. A strategic mission was set - to place the school in the ranks of the best military universities in the country. In the new academic year, more than 1,200 cadets from different regions of Russia began training at the Ulyanovsk Flight School. An important event will be the first graduation of senior students directly from the walls of Ulyanovsk VVAUL in November this year.
