A number of residents of Aktash district in Kunduz say that extensive and indiscriminate gold mining continues in this area and hundreds of people have traveled there to mine in recent weeks.
Residents sent videos to Afghanistan International on Saturday saying gold mining was going on in several areas of Agtash and Dashtrachi. Hundreds of people, tents and drilling machines are seen in these videos. The residents of the village of Bend Barak say that the crowd of miners disturbed their daily life. A local resident claimed that several people extract gold without technical supervision and specific permission and give shares to local Taliban officials.
