MEP Alvisa Perez Fernandez said that Afghan women were treated like animals and the international community remained indifferent to their deprivation, oppression and suffering. He criticized EU policy towards the Taliban at a meeting of the European Parliament on Thursday, saying that economic interests and access to Afghanistan's mineral resources, including lithium, copper and rare earths, took precedence over human rights and the plight of the country's people. "We don't care if people die," the MP said.
