Turkey announced on Saturday that it had nominated Feridon Sinirlioglu, the country's former foreign minister, as its candidate for the post of UN secretary-general.
Sinirlioglu previously worked as the UN's special coordinator for an independent assessment of the situation in Afghanistan and was one of the influential figures in the Doha process.
