The statement of the mayor of New York Mamdani on the occasion of 7.10 causes a stir: one short and correct paragraph about the massacre and the rest - an attack against Israel

This is the wording of the statement:

This day is very painful for many New Yorkers. Today marks three years since the terrible war crimes of October 7th. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapped 251 more. We mourn alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry with them this unimaginable loss.

The suffering did not begin that day nor did it end there. It has continued ever since through the devastating and ongoing genocide carried out by the Israeli government in Gaza, during which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians, including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called "ceasefire", more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed.

This suffering became more acute with each Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, with each drone attack aimed at a residential or journalistic building, and with each shipment of food aid that was rejected at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are dealing with this unbearable grief, and we grieve alongside them, knowing that our tax dollars are funding these war crimes.

Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world where occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes go unpunished, and where our federal government continues to be complicit with every additional arms shipment.

To honor the memory of the dead, we must fight for a world where every person can live in freedom, security and dignity.
