Syria is expected to become a new route for the export of crude oil from Iraq, which will allow oil to be transported without passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iraq asked Syria to help export the oil by transporting it by truck overland to a port in the Mediterranean Sea, thereby expanding an existing route that is already used to transport Iraqi fuel oil.
