IDF spokesman's response: "Distorted, misleading and unrealistic picture"
The film 'Naza' presents a distorted, misleading and unrealistic picture of the process of planning and attacking targets in the IDF. The film's narrative is based on substantial factual errors, resulting from a distorted and manipulative presentation.
In summary, contrary to the claims arising from the film, among other things:
1. The mandatory instructions in the IDF explicitly, comprehensively and clearly distinguish between terrorists and civilians uninvolved in Gaza. The attack processes in the IDF are absolutely based on this distinction, prohibiting the direction of an attack towards civilians, and obliging to reduce as much as possible the possibility of harming them.
2. The IDF never planned, approved or carried out any attack in Gaza in which it was expected that 500 civilians would be killed or a number approaching that. At no point was it seriously claimed against the IDF that its attack caused a number of deaths of this magnitude or close to it.
3. Artificial intelligence has never independently selected targets for attack in the IDF. Identification of targets for attack is done by qualified intelligence officers only, the planning of the attack is carried out by relevant professionals, and the decision to attack targets is made by operational commanders.
4. The mandatory instructions in the IDF have never given automatic approval for attacks on targets that endanger a predetermined number of civilians (such as 20 civilians in an attack on a junior operative or 200 civilians in an attack on a senior commander, as Adam claims in the film).
5. 'Lavender' is not a database of approved targets for attack, but a database that helps intelligence researchers.
6. The mandatory instructions in the IDF do not allow the giving of an evacuation warning to a certain area to be treated as permission to carry out attacks in it while ignoring the presence of civilians remaining there.
7. The IDF does not ignore the results of its attacks, but rather works to investigate them, including aspects of unintentional harm to civilians, contrary to the claim that emerges from the film. This investigation is used to motivate investigations of hundreds of cases that occurred in combat and as a basis for drawing lessons.
