Amir Oren - "Haaretz": "Izenkot must dismantle his legacy". The Israeli writer Amir Oren believed that the electoral defeat suffered by the President of the United States Donald Trump is a political blow to Benjamin Netanyahu as well, and called on Gadi Eisenkot, if he succeeds in forming the government, to dismantle the legacy of the previous government and remove individuals who are responsible for weakening the state institutions and the security services. In an article published by Haaretz newspaper, Oren compared Netanyahu and Trump, considering that both tried to use executive power to control state institutions, and that the political loss reflects a popular rejection of the government's approach based on the concentration of power. He believed that the consequences of Trump's defeat would go beyond the United States, and affect the calculations of Israeli politicians who might avoid adopting Netanyahu's approach for fear of repeating his fate. The author criticized Shin Bet chief David Zini and Justice Minister Yariv Levin, accusing them of harming state institutions. He also accused Zini of using the agency for political movements aimed at preventing the formation of Eisenkot's government. He called for his immediate dismissal, reconsidered the continuation of Roman Goffman's position, reinstated Israel's ambassador to Washington, Yehiel Leiter, and appointed a new representative who reflects the instructions of the next government. He also called for an examination of the leadership of the American Committee on Public Affairs in Israel (AIPAC), which he believes has harmed Israel's position as a result of its relationship with Netanyahu. Oren called for the documents of the Prime Minister's Office to be examined, in order to reveal what Netanyahu hid regarding the security files, the war and relations with state leaders, considering that the results of this examination may form the basis for criminal prosecution against those involved. Regarding foreign policy, the writer called on Eisenkot to present a new vision during his first possible meeting with Trump and congressional officials from both parties, based on restoring trust and opening another page in America-Israel relations. He believed that Eisenkot has security experience that qualifies him to move from the formulation of security theory to its implementation as prime minister.
