Israeli journalist Natan Gutman expected that the American mid-term elections, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, would open the door to changes that could be reflected in American support for the entity, if the Democrats manage to capture the majority of the Republicans in one or both chambers of Congress.
Guttman explained that Democratic control may push to tighten controls on US arms deals to the entity, particularly heavy bombs, precision munitions and D9 bulldozers, in addition to proposing legislation to investigate attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, and to reconsider annual military aid amounting to $3.8 billion.
He noted that the new Congress may also seek to limit Trump's military moves toward Iran through financial and legislative pressure, but the president's foreign policy powers and his veto power limit Democrats' ability to force radical changes. According to Guttman, the effects of any change in the balance of power within Congress would not begin until January 2027, leaving Trump leeway during the midterms.
