More than 57 million Americans voted early in the midterm elections for Congress, a record level for midterm elections, a day before voters went to the polls.
Nearly 31.8 million early in-person votes, and more than 25.1 million returned mail-in ballots.
In states that publish party registration data, Democrats accounted for 43 percent of participants compared to 31.8 percent of Republicans, without these percentages reflecting actual voting trends.
The vote includes all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 seats in the Senate, and determines the balance of power in Congress during the next two years.
