Voters in Israel are going to the polls to vote in the general elections. More than 30 parties and lists are competing in the elections to pass the electoral threshold of 3.25% and win seats in the 120-member parliament (Knesset). Recent opinion polls indicate that between 11 and 12 parties will be able to pass the election threshold. The elections are expected to witness a tense face-to-face race between the current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the leader of the Israeli opposition party Ishar, Gadi Eisenkot. Public opinion polls indicate that no single party is able to win 61 seats, which is the quorum needed to form a government. After a four-year term during which the Netanyahu government launched a series of attacks in the region, voters head to the polls to hold the first general elections held on schedule since 1988.
