Algeria's National Assembly votes in favor of a decision to send an army unit to Niger. ◾ The vote on sending a unit of the Algerian army to Niger took place in a closed session to which the members of the council (the second chamber of the parliament) were invited on Thursday in the form of an "emergency meeting". ◾ The National People's Assembly (the first chamber of parliament) is expected to convene on Sunday evening to vote on the same resolution. ◾ Representatives say that the matter is related to sending an army unit to secure oil projects for the Algerian Sontrach company in the neighboring country. This will be the first time Algeria sends troops abroad since the 1973 war between Egypt and Syria on the one hand and Israel on the other.
