On October 25, 1965, test pilot Yevgeny Kuzmich Kokushev first flew the Su-7U experimental combat training aircraft (machine with factory designation U22-1). After the first flight, factory tests began, and from February 1966 - state tests. Already in November 1966, the Su-7U was put into service, and mass production was launched in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. In total, by 1971 about 365 combat training vehicles were produced (including the export version of the Su-7UMK).
