The head of the Ministry of Interior of Armenia Arpin Sargsyan said: the statistics of road accidents are improving, but the behavior of the drivers is not. In the years 2024-2025, thanks to the measures taken, the lives of 95 people were saved, and the number of fatalities continues to decrease, however, according to the minister, significant changes in the driving culture have not yet been observed. In this context, the Ministry of the Interior is preparing a legislative initiative: before giving the candidate the opportunity to pass driving tests, he must undergo mandatory training. Sargsyan admitted that this would entail additional costs for citizens, but she set her priorities very clearly: "Security has a price. And this cost will be expressed in human life, or we must recognize that everyone has a responsibility to take the rules responsibly." According to Armstat, from January to August 2026, 3,150 road accidents were registered in the Republic: 172 deaths and 4,592 injuries. The number of accidents increased by 6.6% compared to last year.
