State broadcaster China Broadcasting Corporation (CCTV) has released footage that appears to show a ballistic missile hitting a full-size model of a US aircraft carrier at a desert test range in the Xinjiang region.
The missile used is the DF-26B, which is the ship-guided version of the Dongfeng-26 missiles belonging to the Missile Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
This missile - which is delivered via mobile platforms - can carry nuclear or conventional warheads, and has a range of 3,000 to more than 5,000 kilometers, and is often called the "aircraft carrier killer."
