Berlin calls on its citizens to leave Syria immediately.
The main points of the warning (from October 29, 2026):
- Warns against traveling to Syria.
- The German embassy in Damascus is closed to the public.
Consular and emergency services are managed through the German Embassy in Beirut.
Consular assistance to Germans inside Syria is very limited in cases of acute emergencies only.
- The security situation is still unstable: Damascus witnessed attacks in the summer of 2026 with explosive devices (including an attack on a cafe in July that resulted in deaths and injuries), in addition to the threat of terrorism (ISIS is still active), kidnapping, criminal violence, armed skirmishes in various areas and certain border crossings.
