A US intelligence memo from October 23 warns that Iran has "significantly increased" its efforts to assassinate US diplomats and officials in the Middle East and abroad, and that some of these plans have reached "advanced stages".
These threats, combined with the fear of Houthi attacks, caused the US State Department to reduce the number of US diplomatic staff in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Qatar and Jordan.
