US Ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barak, on Syria:

I believe that Israel and Syria will come to an understanding; President al-Shara'a was very clear when he said:

"I have no aggressive ambitions towards you, and I want to calm the situation down. ".

Likewise, Sharia does not have "Hezbollah"; He did not fire a single shot, and they never attacked Israel. This assures Israel that they do not want to launch attacks.

On the other hand, Israel says:

"We're still not entirely sure about you. You used to be extreme fighters, like Jabhat al-Nusra. There are foreign fighters within the military formations deployed along my borders. I need a safe space within my boundaries. After the events of October 7, I will not let anyone cross my borders."

So, we are now in the phase of building trust. We have had five productive rounds of border talks, starting in Paris in May 2024. We are very close to reaching an agreement, and I believe we will get there again.
