Syrian officials and Hezbollah leaders met secretly in Turkey in September, the first known direct meeting between the two sides since the fall of Bashar al-Assad.

The discussions, under the auspices of Turkey's security and intelligence services, focused on easing tensions.

Syria promised Hezbollah that it would not intervene militarily in Lebanon to threaten the organization, while asking Hezbollah to stop cross-border arms smuggling and dismantle the remaining cells in Syria.

Hezbollah pledged not to interfere in Syrian affairs, but did not provide a direct response to these requests. No final agreement was reached.
