This decision was made one day after the Saudi air defense intercepted two Houthi drones aimed at Riyadh, in light of the escalation of Houthi attacks on the kingdom.

Two separate letters sent by schools and seen by AFP included:

"We have just received a message from the Saudi authorities that schools must remain closed throughout the week."
