Iraq has resorted to importing emergency gasoline shipments from three Arab countries, to fill a growing gap between the production of local refineries and the volume of consumption, and to control the fuel crisis that the country has witnessed in recent days.

The CEO of the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO), Ali Nizar al-Shater, revealed that Iraq is currently importing additional amounts of gasoline from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and Europe, at a time when import operations are facing challenges related to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

He explained, during his participation in the session of the House of Representatives to discuss the fuel crisis, that deliveries coming from Europe arrive in Iraq through Syria as a transit corridor, while the Arab supplies come directly from Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, to provide additional quantities to the local market.
