Ammon - An official in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior said on Monday that the government is continuing with the decision to limit weapons to the official security forces.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Hussein al-Awadi, confirmed in statements published by the Iraqi News Agency that the authorities will collect up to 6 million weapons during the coming months.

Al-Awdi added that "the limitation of weapons in the hands of the state is a decision of the commander of the armed forces and all the security administration systems in Iraq, that the weapons will be exclusively in the hands of the official security forces, and this is the decision of the state and the government continues with this decision."

He continued: "There may be more than 6 million weapons in the inventory of the Ministry of the Interior in the coming months."

The official stated, "The Ministry of the Interior is determined to maintain security in every province of Iraq, and the security file will be transferred to all provinces in the coming months."

Iraq is now working to limit weapons to the country, and to involve all armed militant factions working within the government forces. A number of armed militant factions announced their support for the plan, and the "Peace Brigades" faction associated with Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr was the first to take the initiative to disarm him and hand him over to the Iraqi forces.
