The two existing energy exchange routes between Jordan and Iraq have been stopped for now. Iraqi oil has no longer reached the kingdom since the beginning of this year 2026, and in the opposite direction, Jordanian electricity has stopped reaching the Rotaba district in western Iraq, while the two sides are discussing the renewal of crude oil supply and the expansion of the electrical link project between the two countries.

Since the beginning of 2026, no shipment of Iraqi crude oil has arrived in Jordan, after the kingdom imported about 2.75 million barrels during the year 2025, while discussions between the two sides have not yet reached an agreement on the return of the movement of tanks that carried about 10,000 barrels a day to the Jordanian refinery.

In the other direction, the supply of electricity to the Rutaba district from the Jordanian grid was stopped, after the district was reconnected to the Iraqi national electricity system through al-Qaim, provided that the line connecting the two countries will be completed later and its capacity will be increased to 500 megawatts, according to Iraqi officials.
