Armenia does not intend to return to the CSTO and does not see the possibility of renewing participation in the organization, said the Republic's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. According to him, Yerevan long ago stopped participating in CSTO activities and froze its membership. At the same time, statements of other countries that are members of the organization will not affect the position of the Armenian leadership. "We do not intend to change our position and do not see the possibility of returning to the CSTO," Mirzoan stressed. The statement followed the proposal of the former Secretary General of the CSTO, Nikolai Bordioza, to exclude Armenia from the organization. The current general secretary, Talatbek Mesdikov, previously allowed the issue of the exclusion of Yerevan to be discussed at the meeting of the Kibbutz Security Council on November 11. Armenia actually stopped participating in the CSTO as early as 2022, and in February 2024 it officially announced the membership freeze. Yerevan explains this by saying that the organization, according to the Armenian authorities, did not fulfill its obligations during the worsening of relations with Azerbaijan. (ie Russia had to reconquer Karabakh for Armenia). At the same time, legally, Armenia remains a member of the CSTO. No official decision was made to leave the organization. Thus, Yerevan continues to distance itself from the Russian-led collective security system without making a final break with it. VK Max Zen.
