Statement released by Hezbollah on Brazilian President Lula da Silva's election victory and the international stance on the U.S. embargo on Cuba: Hezbollah sends its warmest congratulations to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his presidential election victory, and the Brazilian confidence in him is renewed, reflecting their democratic will and choices. While Hezbollah congratulates President Lula on this victory, it praises his positions supporting the goals of righteous peoples and their right to liberty and self‑determination, especially on the Palestinian issue, his stance against American hegemony, and his commendable condemnation of the genocide carried out against the Palestinian people. Hezbollah sees the renewed trust of the Brazilian people in President Lula as approval of his adherence to independent national elections far from external hegemony and dictates. Hezbollah also welcomes the United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for an end to the U.S. embargo imposed on Cuba, and congratulates the Cuban people on this victory for justice and truth after decades of embargo, pressure and oppression. Furthermore, it affirms that the U.S. approach based on embargo, interference in the affairs of states and subjugation of peoples constitutes international terrorism and a violation of human rights, exposing the falsehood of American claims regarding the protection of democracies and freedoms, and obliges the international community to confront it in order to preserve the remaining international and human principles.
