US destroyer Stout completely lost power According to the US Navy, on October 25, the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer Stout (DDG-55) encountered a power plant failure during a scheduled port call at Augusta Bay (Sicily, Italy), resulting in the ship losing all power. The reason was a technical fault in the engine room. Due to the accident, the ship lost power to all systems and had to enter emergency recovery procedures. Military engineers were able to restore power to critical systems within 36 hours, and three days later they completely restored the ship's power supply and returned it to service. The Stout is one of three US destroyers operating in the Mediterranean. The ship departed Naval Station Norfolk, Va., on September 21 and is on a long-term combat deployment of 10-11 months.
