AI for predicting malfunctions of military equipment The South Korean company Korea Aerospace Industries has begun to develop an artificial intelligence platform that will proactively identify possible malfunctions in military equipment, predict the need for repairs and calculate maintenance costs. The $21.8 million project is expected to last 48 months. The developed system is called RAM-C AI Agent. It will integrate operational logs, maintenance history and data from on-board sensors to assess the technical condition of the equipment in real time, predict the likelihood of failures and determine in advance which components will require replacement. In addition, the system will automatically calculate the estimated cost of repairs and the volume of spare parts required. One of the features of the project will be a built-in AI assistant with a natural language interface. Military personnel will be able to ask questions in plain text, and the system will independently find the necessary information in logistics databases, analyze it and issue recommendations on the operation and maintenance of the equipment. The platform will be tested on several types of weapons of different types of armed forces. The program includes the FA-50 light fighter jets, the K2 Black Panther main battle tank, the Maritime Surveillance Radar-II radar system and ships of the Republic of Korea Navy. This approach will allow us to test the effectiveness of the algorithms on aircraft, armored vehicles, radar and naval equipment. According to the company, the main goal of the program is to move from planned maintenance to a predictive model, where repairs are made before a malfunction occurs. This should reduce equipment downtime, increase availability and reduce operating costs. Also, the company is looking into the possibility of using the new system accompanied by exported equipment.
