Iranian attacks caused severe damage to U.S. military infrastructure in the Middle East, AP reports. Iranian attacks on more than two dozen U.S. military bases in the Middle East initially targeted early warning systems and later targeted aircraft and buildings, causing billions of dollars in damage, according to an AP analysis. AP independently verified the damage to U.S. military facilities using satellite images provided by multiple companies. By August, more than 115 drone and missile attacks by Iran or Iran-backed organizations had damaged or destroyed facilities at 26 military bases and other sites hosting American equipment. Iran initially focused its attacks on aircraft hangars and systems designed to detect missile threats early, paving the way for subsequent attacks on warehouses, barracks, and other sites. The attacks significantly altered the presence of U.S. troops in the region, forcing Washington to redeploy much of its equipment away from the Persian Gulf, two regional officials said. The relocated assets include aircraft, air defense and communications systems, and other equipment necessary to operate military bases, one of the officials said.
